Writing
I've always written short stories and poems, but it wasn't until five years ago that I wrote anything longer. Now, I’m getting ready to query agents with my psychological thriller, Catch up after a major revision over the past year. I’m also working on another psychological thriller, and I’ve workshopped other book-length manuscripts on Authonomy ( a site created by Harper Collins which is now defunct).
I believe the arts are a vital medium for the exploration of the human condition and the sharing of that experience visually as well as verbally which is why I write as well as paint and sculpt.
About my reading: I like good strong stories, and revel in a bit of twist. I appreciate good writing and strive to make my own as good as some of the authors below! Snow Child Eowyn Ivie, Wind up Bird Chronicles Marukami , Dracula Bram Stoker, The Tenderness of Wolves Stef Penney, The Magic Toyshop Angela Carter.
In the following section are the first three chapters of a psychological thriller of 82,000 words. It concerns Samantha Collingwood. This thirty four year old mother of two has a dark past which she has successfully hidden from her respectable husband and their friends in the village. This looks set to implode when new neighbours turn up – next door is Daniel and his wife Tish, a successful lawyer and his fragile wife, and across the village green is Minty, a young woman with a mysterious past.
Both Daniel and Minty are determined to lay bare the truth about Samantha to achieve their own, very different, ends.
Written from the perspective of Samantha, and interlaced with Minty’s own experiences, the pace of this psychological thriller increases as Samantha finds that her past is unavoidable, however much she seeks to evade it and however much she fears it will cost her.
In the short story section are some of the short stories that I have written, which I hope are entertaining.
